Immediate acceptance led to continuous progress within the variety of chapters and the size of the membership. Fourteen chapters were chartered throughout 1922; by 1930 there were 962 chapters of NHS and 128 chapters of NJHS. In 2001, the nationwide workplace acknowledged thirteen,553 chapters of NHS and 5,316 chapters of NJHS.
Local chapters could elevate this average to meet native standards of excellence as long as such requirements are utilized pretty and persistently. Honor Society acknowledges the traditional value of honorifics and has recognition tiers to honor high achievers, while also electing to keep up an open door and serve as a leader in inclusivity and opportunity inside the educational realm.

Under the management of Dr. Edward Rynearson, principal of the Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, the group grew from the original Alpha Chapter on the Fifth Avenue School to greater than 1,000 chapters by 1930. Equipped with a structure, an emblem and motto, and a group of dedicated principals as coordinators, the new NHS organization shortly developed into one of many nation’s leading instructional groups.
